Internet Meets the Great Wall

The universalistic vocation of the web makes internet seem like the technology of democratization par excellence. Yet the case of China, the top nation in the world by number of internet users, conflicts with that assumption, showing that in addition to political aspects it is necessary to expand the analysis to economic and social dynamics. The study of the evolution of internet in China provides interesting elements to question narratives and evolutions different than those in the United States, in light of the most recent past and with an eye to the challenges of the future.
