The Origins of the Print Media Crisis

In Italy, the print media sector has never had a leading role: mass literacy and the definition of a solid industrial system, that in other countries drove the expansion of the publishing market and the growth of the press and popular publishing, are relatively recent achievements. The economic difficulties of the sector were heightened by the generalized crisis of trust in journalism, with the Italian press in a good position in this little gratifying ranking. However, in the context of the generalized fall of print media, an entirely Italian characteristic remains: the importance of publications with regional circulation, that continue to be the backbone of the sector.
