The Minority Market in Private Equity and Italian SMEs
The minority market is attracting the attention of the world of institutional investors in various fields: private equity funds, family offices, club deals, and public investors. A study conducted by the Private Equity & Growth Finance Observatory of the SDA Bocconi analyzed: the long-term dimension of minority investments; the characteristics of target companies and investors; the growth strategies adopted; the problems of management of subsidiaries; and the creation of value obtained by the exit strategy. However, the minority market is characterized by being aimed at the numerous markets of Italian SMEs, that are often strongly innovative, with unexpressed growth potential, but also family governance structures that are not always efficient.
