Artificial Intelligence and the Administrative Side of Public Healthcare
Artificial Intelligence and the Administrative Side of Public Healthcare
Clinical applications of AI in healthcare are very promising, although many ethical, legal, organizational, and governance issues need to be addressed. The administrative side of healthcare organizations can also benefit greatly from AI and poses far fewer problems, as patients are usually not directly involved, and the necessary data is public and often already digitized. Below, we provide a general introduction to AI in healthcare and identify some administrative applications that could be implemented relatively quickly, with significant benefits in terms of efficiency and effectiveness, and in compliance with the law. Our recommendation is to proceed with local experimentation and public-private collaboration.
