The shortcut of protectionism: external solutions for internal problems?

In Italy, as globally, the temptation of protectionism has dangerously spread as a cure-all for every problem. “External solutions” are sought to avoid confronting issues that are almost always rooted in a country’s internal weaknesses and industrial structure, rather than being the result of genuine unfair international competition. And yet, some “internal solutions” would be well within reach.
