From Coach to Leader Coach: Tools and Competencies for People Development
People development requires organizational systems and managerial behaviors that sustain learning over time. Coaching contributes to this goal through structured programs integrated with other development tools, while the leader coach brings specific coaching competencies into everyday people management. Drawing on the literature and three organizational examples, the article explores these two perspectives, examining leader coach competencies and the individual and organizational barriers to their application. Alignment between development systems and managerial practice, supported by a shared growth mindset, helps strengthen employee autonomy and make people development a shared responsibility throughout the organization.
