Swedish Lessons for the ECB
The ECB has become a Tower of Babel. In February, President Lagarde first reiterated the day-to-day policy - which has caused much murmuring in recent months - and then announced an interest rate hike in March in advance; a remedy worse than the problem. Perhaps it would be appropriate to follow the example of colleagues from the Swedish central bank, which not only increased its nominal reference rate to combat inflation, but also charted the path of the same rate at three months, one year, two years, and three years. More than a forecast – that can also be revised and verified over time – it is a compass to orient oneself in a complex scenario.
