Old Age as Stimulus for a New Form of Welfare

The perspective of the silver economy requires expanding our viewpoint, integrating the needs and attitudes of older people into welfare practices. The first market sectors that have looked towards the silver segment have been tourism, art and culture, transport, and wellness. Compared to people under 35, in Italy those who are over 65 have higher average pro-capita consumption, higher average income, greater real pro-capita wealth, and a stronger financial position. The Italian welfare system today is completely oriented towards a limited range of needs. Opening up to the paradigm of the silver economy can contribute to expanding public welfare, leveraging the possibilities of integration and pooling with private services.
